Lovelife has one of the best sounds in indie-pop right now, and since its inception, the band has hit the ground running with polished hooks and sophisticated tunes that make most of the competition look like amateurs. In fact, one of their earlier singles, "Stateless", was one of the definitive sleeper hits of 2013, and its offbeat genius had everybody here at Hillydilly scrambling for the replay button. Since, Lovelife has come out with a bevy of high-profile remixes and a handful of original tracks that would silence anybody looking for an excuse to question their status as heavy favorites for future stardom. Now, with all that great material out in the open and under their belt, we're treated with yet another great single, and this time it's bigger and has a much brighter sound. "Nova" is the name, and it's a hook that features a veritable potluck of influences; anytime there's acoustic guitar, big funky string sections, and an anthemic chorus, we're sold. The band's front man, Lee Newell, incorporates vocals that give the composition a bit of extra grit, and when juxtaposed against the clean production work, the end result is scary good. Lovelife has spent its recent history touring with massive names like Ellie Goulding and AlunaGeorge, but after hearing "Nova" (and the rest of their music, for that matter) it becomes apparent that these guys haven't even begun to scratch the surface of their music's potential yet. It's only a matter of time before people start to recognize that singles such as the one here are the future of pop music, and give the band the spotlight it deserves. Some artists have very specific creative directions that preclude them from reaching the widespread audiences that the big guns have access to (and there's nothing wrong with that), but it seems as if Lovelife has managed to bring their unique vision into the mainstream, doing so without sacrificing any originality.
