We’ve been loving all the great new music NY duo AYER has been putting out lately, but today, Mickey Valen (AYER’s producer extraordinaire) just released this killer LORDE remix as a solo project, and it’s everything you could ever want from a rework. Mickey keeps Ella’s signature booming acapella intro almost completely intact (no complaints there), but instead of transitioning into a series of big bass hits like the original does, he’s flipped it completely and focused more on the high-end orchestral elements of the track, blowing them up to epic proportions. (This one needs to be cranked up loud to truly appreciate what’s going on here.) The pianos, string sections, and production textures are so well balanced that even at high volumes, nothing is lost to the decibels. LORDE’s work has attracted a massive amount of remix material in the past couple of months, but there are few that can stand up the quality of her original work. This one of those select few.
