Lewis Del Mar is a duo comprised of two childhood friends, lead singer and guitarist, Danny Miller, and producer and percussionist, Max Harwood. In a little over a year, the duo has gone from writing music in Harwood's parents' basement in DC, to struggling through jobs in the service industry in Brooklyn, to finally creating a song worthy of release with "Loud(y)", which effectively made them the toast of the music industry and cemented a deal with Columbia Records. Lewis Del Mar is their self-titled debut album. Only half the songs are new, with older songs tastefully interspersed throughout it all. Thankfully, the new tracks supply some of the highlights on the album. "Such Small Scenes" opens it with a rich optimism, following the move out of their hometown. Other highlight "Tap Water Drinking" is an uneasy deconstruction of a fleeting romance in New York City. Industrial sounds tweak the songs to capture the angst of young adult transition, and the album as a whole depicts the emotional turmoil of leaving your hometown behind and the struggle for solace in your new surroundings. The duo have invested their hearts, minds, and souls into this project, and that especially tells as they close the album saying, "Understand me when I say / all I had I gave away".
