Aside from Charles Bradley and Michael Kiwanuka, there aren't too many artists out there making soul music that sounds like it was from the '50s, but with the Forth Worth-based singer-songwriter Leon Bridges, we've some that sounds like it was plucked from an era responsible for so many classic gospel-soul records. When you hear music like Leon's, you wonder why the type is not any more popular than it is, because whenever an artist takes a sound back to its roots as he is here, the joy and nostalgia that everyone feels as a result is absolutely universal. With tracks like "Coming Home" and "Better Man", we've a good feeling that Mr. Bridges is not only going to attract lovers of the genre, but anyone who's an ear for drop-dead quality music, and as a result, we're hoping we to maybe see a bit of a revival in the undeservedly dormant genre.
