LAYLA's recent release, "Smokestacks", was the definition of a breakout hit. She'd been putting out quality music for a year or so, and her first EP had turned some heads, but when "Smokestacks" came out, the track rocketed to well over one-hundred thousand plays in just over a month. Others quickly discovered that her other material was just as solid, too, and probably never received the love it deserved. That's all changed now, however, and with her new crop of fans has come a bevy of remixes that will further her brand even more, solidifying the newfound buzz that's both well deserved, and exciting. First up was Kirk Spencer's tribal, beat-driven mix, but today were featuring a rework by Mountain Of Youth that kicks up the cool factor to unprecedented levels. The dark sounds in the original, coupled with the foreboding lyrics, conjured up images of a city shrouded in perpetual grey, and when the chorus started building up steam, you could almost see the smokestacks filling the air with soot and melancholy. Mountain Of Youth has leveraged those same powerful sounds in their version, but they've tempered it with a French house vibe that's added a layer of funk to the mix. You wouldn't expect it to work, but right from the get-go, these guys will have you hooked, and the simple bassline they use to support the whole piece is everything you hoped it would be. Mountain Of Youth only has two other remixes out right now, but don't let the truncated back-catalog fool you, because their music is on point, and their sound is as refined the best of 'em.
