We knew Australian artist-producer LANKS had his fingers wrapped around the right brand of downtempo electronic with his first bout of releases (most recently, with “Beach Houses”), as they provided us with a sound thats a pure indication of the greatness which embodies the area's sound. Now, with his most recent effort, “Hold Me Closer,” he’s done what any artist of his caliber should at this stage in his career, and that's branch out. The inclusion of guitar riffs and a more alternative feel on the track is one that’s proved all the better for the Aussie, and they fill the effort with a much more down-to-earth sound than we’ve heard in the past while also candying our ears with equal effect. “Hold Me Closer” doesn't finish without its fair inclusion of an intriguing synths, of course, and their gradual integration throughout the track is what tops it off, reminding us yet again what the producer is able to do when he spreads his electronic wings.
