You

Returning to his native homeland of Australia seemed to be the catalyst for Berlin-based musician Kyson to complete his sophomore outing. A few months ago, we featured “A Song About The Future”, his first single release in over a year, and the seed from which the album, A Book Of Flying precipitated. It was a shift in what we had come to expect from Kyson’s earlier, more electronically inclined works, but, after listening to the release in full, we can appreciate the honesty in the introspective art that has been created here. What is immediately impressive when listening to A Book Of Flying is the consideration that Kyson has afforded his music, remaining indifferent to expedience as he allows each composition the opportunity to breathe. The sparse vocal islands of “Flightless” and “Nice Circle” evidence this as they protrude from the vast seas of experimental-folk melodies that push his sound to the precipice of the genre. This consideration is not only limited to his instrumentation, though, as more vocal-heavy tracks like “You” and our personal standout, “Pictures”, also show Kyson explore the intricacies of each of his musical ideas with a delicate finesse. Whether you are a fan of Kyson previously, or just have a penchant for ethereal folk with an experimental edge, A Book Of Flying is a must have in your record collection. We've our favorites below from it to help turn you on, and we suspect that, in the future, there will only be more innovative works like it from him to come. A Book Of Flying is available now via iTunes, and you can grab a 12” vinyl release through Kyson’s Bandcamp page as well.
