KOWL (Cal Young) is a young singer-songwriter, musician and producer out of Hobart, Australia. He is perhaps better known back home from his work with The Scientists of Modern Music or his behind the scenes work producing Asta's hit "My Heart Is On Fire" last year. Well all that is about to change with the release of his solo work under this new moniker. With the first few piano bars of "Who Am I" you know you are in for a pure pop treat. The layered synths, the airy vocals and the guitar licks that follow all work together to form a seamlessly produced pop-house track that rivals some of the best. From the onset "Sending You My Heart" has a darker, more insidious tone. The rich saxophone accompanied by the distorted vocals give the track an air of intrigue. You aren't sure exactly where it is going, but you trust it will be good. Then there is the final minute of the track, with a guitar riff that can only be described as blistering. The whole really is greater than the sum of the parts in what has proven to be one of the most unique and enjoyable listening experiences in a while. Music like this is the reason I love trawling the depths of the internet for hours on end. Get on board with this guy, I am predicting great things in his future.
