KOTA — EMPIRE

KOTA

EMPIRE

Throwing around the word 'epic' when describing music is as audacious an action as one can take. It's a perfectly acceptable adjective to use in moderation, though, if you use it too much, you dilute its meaning and look the part of a fool. Today, calling KOTA's (Kids of the Apocalypse) new single, "EMPIRE" epic, is simply a must and a natural reaction from the mountain-scaling journey that is this mind-blowing track. KOTA originally laid their seed in our ears with their mysterious, out-of-nowhere track, "Masters Of The Sun" from January of this year, and more recently with their fantastic remix of London Grammar's "Wasting My Young Years". And now with their third track, "EMPIRE", this mysterious act once again takes it to another level. We still don't have much info at all on the members, but it seems that they've now added some vocalists. Whether they're new band members or just featuring artists, we have no idea. As far as we were concerned, KOTA was just an electronic act (based on their two previously released efforts), but now after hearing "EMPIRE" it sounds like they're heading into uncharted-but-admired genre-less territories. With epic chorus builds, drum & bass breaks, constant fluctuation in tempo, and the use of downright grimey synths, it's safe to say that the effort is one of the most refreshing listens of 2013.
