When we think of emotionally driven, slow-moving electronic, we instantly steer toward the front-runners of the particular style: Dpat, Ekali, and Atu (among some others), but over the past year or so we've seen UK producer Klimeks carve a similar sonic lane. His latest gem, “Odyssey”, exemplifies the observation, and on the tracks, he makes use of pristine samples and manipulations, poignantly bolstered chords, and over-decayed, emphatic drumwork. Long, euphoric chords, with a melancholic, choir-like undertone set “Odyssey” in motion, and as soon as the drums enter, there's an instant ascension in the overall character that's muscled by a low-pitched sample that adds to the emotive setting. A short breakdown then continues the escapade with gentle keys and the aforementioned cut wavering above, and they eventually give way to the final drop that has unearthly chords and further haunting overtones that conclude the piece.
