We posted Kid Atlaas' snazzy "Winter Is Coming" single one week ago, simultaneously reveling in, and preparing for, what we could expect in the aftermath of the exotic effort. Yesterday, our anticipation transmuted into excitement, though, as his formal debut EP, Fragments, released to awaiting ears. The project spans seven original tracks and includes one bonus remix, keeping intact elements of jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop, while failing to neglect the kind of successful sonic experimentation Kid Atlaas has so impeccably integrated into his craft up to this point. There are times Fragments will have you nodding your head out of impassioned compulsion, shaking your head out of awe, and even clamoring for a pen to share some inspired, supplementary rhymes. The entire effort preserves the blend of the aforementioned attributes and elicitations for over seventeen minutes, daring the listener to disengage from the myriad sonic nuances, sparse but smartly utilized samples, and zestful technicalities littered throughout the work. It's an impressive offering from the Parisian producer, as ravishing as any debut EP we've listened to in recent memory.
