Kendrick Lamar has been surmounting a considerable amount of hype over the past few months with help from the very dope J. Cole produced debut single, "Hi Power", that showcases Kendrick at his best. Section 80 is his debut album that will be released on July 2nd. Kendrick clearly displays a lyrical depth that instantly resonates with fans of "real" hip-hop. So the easy question that everyone will ask will lie in the production that accompanies Kendrick on Section 80. Kendrick is simply a beast with his raps, so if you are going to have any problems with Section 80, it will lie in the production. From the first taste of the 2 released singles (Hi Power and Ronald Reagan) you could see the glint of greatness that Kendrick displays. However if you expect Section 80 to be an album that is full of upbeat bangers you will be disappointed. Section 80 carries a mellow vibe throughout the course of the album. To be honest it caught me by surprise, but does not come from a view of disappointment. Give this album your time and do not expect it to blow you away from the first listen.
