We've reached a point where producers can acquire enough fame through remixes and collaborations to have major album releases, and Kaytranada's 99.9% marks a huge point in that development. The 23-year-old Haiti-born, Montreal-raised artist has a deep discography when it comes to instrumental tapes and the aforementioned works as well, but now, he's pieced together a brilliantly eclectic debut album that's going to help set a precedent for producers for many years to come. In 99.9%, Kaytranada flawlessly blends elements of jazz, funk, house, disco, R&B, and hip-hop into a sound that's distinctly his own. He showcases his ability to make incredibly smooth dance music throughout the entire project, but perhaps most notably on "You're The One" and "Together". However, if you prefer the jazzy, R&B-infused side of his sound, songs like "Got It Good" will leave you satisfied. The whole album contains plenty of excellent features—all of which contribute wonderfully to his sound—but it's within his instrumental pieces like "Lite Spots" and "Breakdance Lesson n. 1" that his creativity totally shines.
