Electronic-pop seems to only getting better and better as a genre as a whole, and artists like Kat Vinter provide solid evidence to support that claim. When she debuted two years ago, she certainly made a bit of a ripple for herself, but about a month ago, she really got us excited about her work with a fantastic new single called "Downtime". Now, her exceptional debut EP, Islands, is finally seeing the light of day, and it's one of the best works from the genre we've heard this year. The five-track project doesn't have a weak link in it, and each flawlessly produced song—filled with Kat's talented croon, of course—fluctuates fantastically between haunting and alluring states. Rather than opting for a safe, bright sound, Kat embraces a darker, icy style throughout her EP, and she pulls the feat off marvelously. Islands is currently only available on iTunes in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, but her website hints that it might be available in Canada and the US tomorrow.
