We're always amazed when an artist can constantly vary their sound, but still maintain a consistent level of quality with their releases, and KANYON certainly earns his place in this distinguishable niche with his debut EP, Metromorphosis. The multi-talented act (who's not-so-surprisingly based in Australia), has over twenty tracks to his name prior to this EP of his, and with low plays on the majority of his work, it’s about time this top-notch talent gains some serious attention. The six-track EP known as Metromorphosis contains kaleidoscopic synths, uplifting textures, and a multitude of electronic flavors—all of which coalesce to yield a distinctive, dynamic sonic blend. Our first highlight from Metromorphosis is “So Divine”, a song that captivates instantly with a delayed tropical synth alongside a pitch-shifting vocal slice—both of which leave just enough room for some fresh electronic percussion. The majority of the track oscillates between piercing vocal cuts, non-sequential drums, and sheer serenity, but during the latter end of the piece, we see KANYON emit a bass-heavy house sound which contributes an excellent flair to the piece. Celestial synth work is a certain soft spot of ours, and “Just Another”, another favorite, is overflowing with that futuristic sonic material that brilliantly accompanies KANYON's vocals. The chord progressions blatantly stand out to us on the gem, and when they're paired with a base of glimmering cosmic percussion, we can chalk it up as another excellent effort from the Sydney-based act.
