Mixing different genres in a song is definitely a difficult endeavor (though, perhaps it's done unconsciously). You're in risk of entirely killing the nuances of a certain type of sound (not to mention inclined to have an end result that radiates mediocrity and incompleteness). However, when done well, very original, experimental vibes can be created, and here with LA-based producer KAN WAKAN's new single, "Molasses", we have exactly that. Combining warm, modern R&B and chillwave with a soulful country edge, KAN is able to achieve an extremely innovative and captivating sound with his single here. Throughout the beginning of the track, the slow-tempo, piano-filled production—in tandem with thick, sensual vocals—set the stage superbly. As it progresses, a harmonica is added into the mix, and it gives off an unexpected nostalgic twist that we've never been really exposed to before. Because of this medley of sounds, we're pretty excited to see what direction KAN will take us in next. "Molasses" will be featured on KAN's upcoming LP entitled Phantasmagoria.
