Early last month we had the great honour of introducing you to Kaleida, an exciting new duo based in the UK, as we premiered their debut single "Think". We simply adored the song, a sentiment that was echoed by you, the readership, as with over 2,300 individual hits on Hillydilly, "Think" was one of the most played tracks in November. And now Christina Wood and Cicely Goulder are back as they release "Tropea", the second single to be released from their forthcoming EP. From the opening bars, it is clear that both of these offerings were painted with the same brush, and that is in no way a bad thing. Cicely's production style is crisp, purposeful and distinctive, and such distinction is a trait that after only two singles, is a feat in and of itself. The glittery arpeggiated synths are juxtaposed against the brooding bass as "Tropea" comes to life, laying the musical foundation to usher in Christina's incredible vocals. We have said it before on this website, and we will say it again, Christina Wood's voice is one of the greatest revelations of 2013. She could sing the phone book and we would still hang on every note. Intricate, earnest and thoroughly compelling, the vocal track on "Tropea" is once again impeccable. It is remarkable just how accomplished both of these singles feel. With the astonishing talent on display from both Cicely and Christina, Kaleida are proving to be a formidable force in the electro-pop landscape, a presence that will only increase in size with the forthcoming release of their debut EP.
