Soul as a genre, if you haven't already noticed, has skewed quite incredibly since the introduction of electronic sounds injected into it, but today, Kadhja Bonet gives us a typically originating style on her debut EP, The Visitor. The Los Angeles-based all-round talent is certainly not from our era in sonic terms, and that's due to both the effortless, soulful voice she possesses, and the orchestral engineering of her instrumentation as a whole. Three cuts in particular stood out for us from her EP here, and each of them have Kadhja's vocals in significance, which is not surprising, especially in the way they draw you in. "Fairweather Friend" is one that ideally fits the description, as, beside raw percussion and a '40s film score-like backdrop, an unmissable tone is cast. Other favorites include "Gramma Honey" and "The Visitor", as they, too, have Bonet's voice fluttering through cinematic sound.
