$K is a Los Angeles native currently working on his debut album, Mama's Boy, and "Who I Am" is the first single from the project. $K treats the song like Play-Doh and kneads it into a proper reflection of his state of mind, and its loose structure becomes its strength, as he sings and raps his way through the pain of heartbreak with a passion that can only be elicited from such pain. The first section of the piece is an emotionally raw depiction of depression and drug use following the collapse of a long-term relationship, and the second section finds $K flipping the script on that sad state with a much more optimistic spin and a crucial moment of self-discovery.
