There aren't many artists without at least a track or two we've passed up, but Josef Salvat is an exception. The London-via-Sydney singer stormed onto our radar about a year and a half ago with his very first track, "This Life", and ever since then, his work as only been gaining steam in the artistic community. He released one of our favorite tracks last year in "Hustler", and now, he's followed up his incredibly promising start with an exceptional new EP, In Your Prime, that surpasses even our own high expectations of the artist. The four-track EP consists of "This Life", two already-released singles, and an unexpected cover of a Rihanna track, so although you might've already heard some of the songs, there's no doubt it's one of the most remarkable EPs this year. Salvat had acquired our attention and affection about a month ago with his powerful single, "Shoot and Run", that featured his stunning vocals, massive percussion, shadowy synths, and some emotive strings—and luckily, he didn't keep us waiting too much longer for new material, because just a few days ago, he dropped off the next song from the EP, "Open Season", a lighter, optimistic track fueled by inspirational piano keys, swelling synths, and an absolutely infectious chorus. The only previously unreleased offering on the EP is "Diamond", and, like we said, it's a cover of Rihanna's worldwide hit. Salvat begins the track with nothing but his courageous call over some gorgeous piano keys, but the song steadily evolves into a passionate ballad complete with authentic percussion and multiple vocal layers. It's a nice way to round out the efforts on the project, surely, and with the body of work, Josef's ensured the continuation of his flawless streak of releases.
Josef Salvat
