When we covered Joni Payne's ice-cold, completely chilled-out, and utterly intriguing electronic-pop piece, "Must Have", two months ago, we knew we had come across something pretty special. It was so perfectly low-key and smooth and bliss-filled unlike too many other tracks in the sonic domain, and it gripped. We hoped for more. Today, we get some. Though a sonic switch-up from her aforementioned track, Joni's new one here, an inspired rendition of Al Green's version of "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?", continues to showcase her immediate appeal. She flexes her impressive vocal range on the piece, casts some soul that'd make the devil wince, and utilizes her elegant backing instrumental by Mike Derenzo to utter perfection. This kind of lovely performance could—and should—be utilized in a number of different spaces and moments in life, and we think it'll usher in a whole wave of appreciative light for the rising singer-songwriter and overall artistic mind. You can bet that there will be more piercing tracks like this one from her camp ahead.
