We've been championing a lot of that downtempo/hip-hop/trap production as of late, but not much of it has featured actual rappers on the tracks. Today we change that with the introduction of the Charlotte rapper, Jerm, who released a noteworthy album, Material of Dreams, back on January 1st. It's not too often you find albums like this hiding in the depths of the interwebs, either, because we feel that Jerm has the kind of sound that a lot of people are going to love. That sound we speak of is the larger-than-life production Jerm uses to swallow up your speakers. It's heavy on the low-end, accentuated with synths, and doused with the slow-moving, sometimes R&B, melodic raps of Jerm. You won't look for Jerm to blow you away with his lyrical prose; he's more about offering feelings from listening to his music. We gotta say, though, we're quite fascinated here. From the production to his methodical raps, there is much to be enjoyed, so take your time with this album, because it's worth it.
