The days of having Ja Rule and Jennifer Lopez dominating our pop charts are well behind us, but as far as resurrecting the two's sound, that could happen any time, because as Nons shows us here, you never know when a forward-thinking remix will pop up out of obscurity. The fact that this one is coming from an unknown producer from Australia should be no surprise to anyone who's been into the genre (or our site) recently, but that's no bearing on the quality, which is, in fact, great. "Nons", we should note, is the moniker of James Nonu-Carling, and based on his SoundCloud page that's peppered with reposts and remixes, the production looks as if it's just a fun side project sort of thing. With that said, though, if you were to base his dedication to his craft on this remix of "I'm Real", it's hard not to think of him as a blossoming artist within the genre who's been honing his craft for many years. Along with Non's remix here, there are other edits of Marvin Gaye, Biggie, and alt-J on his SoundCloud page that showcase an understated talent here, and not only that, but there's an obvious diversity in his sound as you move from track to track. Sure, they're not going to wow any seasoned listener, but it's easy to hear the potential within his efforts, and we implore you to check them—and others—out.
