Anticipation and expectations will always vary within the minds of people with an highly anticipated album like Watch The Throne. These days we are moving away from the need of big name artists to be the 'be all and end all' with every new album that they release. Thanks to the new medium of the internet we are exposed to new amazing music on a daily basis. Now more than ever the music needs to do the talking: we no longer care about your look, your last album, your stature or how swagged out you are. This may all be fantasy talk, but after many years of being disappointed with albums, you really have to sit down with zero expectations and let the music speak for itself. A wise man once said "expectations are resentments waiting to happen" - macklemore. So with Watch The Throne it will all depend on your hip-hop preference and the expectations you lay on an album like this. If you are easily irritated by the bravado of Jay and Kanye you are probably going to have ill thoughts on your first impression. Beneath the subject matter are layers of musicality that can not be ignored. Kanye's sample game is untouchable. There is a distinctable feeling on Watch The Throne that is captivating. Kayne and Jay are a demanding force together and the chemistry is undeniable. Watch The Throne does have its misses but does however feature some amazing tracks that make up for the misses. My takeaway favorites are Murder To Excellence, Gotta Have It, That's My Bitch & Primetime. For the tracks that you do enjoy, the album is worth the hype. But if you are expecting an album that is front 2 back incredible, Watch The Throne won't be that album. Purchase from the itunes link above.
