Jay Prince is a fine representative of UK hip-hop. He's cool, he's calm, and he's that unmistakable, enrapturing London tone that really soothes without even necessarily trying to. He's a conscious artist as well (another trademark UK hip-hop trait), and his social and soulful undertones are ones that are always welcome within his wonderful works. Luckily for us, then, we get to enjoy another of his described offerings, "Polaroids" (the first track off his upcoming, yet-to-be-announced EP), today, and it's everything we love about the East London emcee. On "Polaroids", Prince wastes no time in instilling a soulful current, utilizing fellow Londoner RAHEAVEN's croons and backing vocals to bolster and help usher in his incoming, rapid-enough raps about making points and lives worth living. The subject matter is engulfed in a relatively basic, but appropriately supplemental (rather than competitive) role, and this allows Jay's lines to cast out in an importantly uninterrupted fashion. It is his expression we're after, after all. The soulful acoustics are just a bonus, but with that said, we're digging the whole of "Polaroids", as well as what it has to offer in terms of anticipation for the upcoming work it is to be a part of.
