James Vincent McMorrow — Surreal

James Vincent McMorrow

Surreal

James Vincent McMorrow is an artist that has changed his style with each album he has put out, and, while it's a difficult thing to transition from a singer that's garnered international acclaim for being indie-folk artist to an artist more in the alternative-R&B lane, McMorrow has shown that he fits well within both styles well. On his latest release, We Move, he expands on what he created on his glittering, pointed sophomore album, Post Tropical, and finds new life in an '80s-tinged, expertly produced place. We already featured tracks that preceded the album's release ("Rising Water" and "Get Low"), and we noted their remarkable sounds. There are even more exciting tracks now that the album is out, we're pleased to say, and, among them, there's the Two Inch Punch-produced "Evil", "I Lie Awake Every Night", and, perhaps the most unique of this bunch, "Surreal". We are lucky that there are artists like James Vincent McMorrow making music today. There needs to be more of a culture of versatility that McMorrow personifies in his work. We Move will definitely satisfy a multitude of listeners, and, if not, there is probably something in McMorrow's catalog that will. Purchase on iTunes, or stream it all on Spotify.
