This will be Jaukubi's fourth official single release since the band's official unveiling about a year ago, and since its inception, these guys have put out nothing but gold. Songs like "Holiday" and "Can't Afford It All" are objectively great tracks, but it's the uniqueness of their sound that's really going to push them over the edge and away from the pack. Even if you're not intimately familiar with the band, it only takes one or two listens for their music to make a lasting impression, and their ability to fuse all sorts of genres together into one laid-back package is impressive, to say the least. With "Couch Potato", Jakubi has continued to develop their signature mix of pop, indie-rock, jazz, and even a few smatterings of soul. It's all here, and perfectly homogenized so that each transition and song element blends in effortlessly with the next. The lyrics are decidedly finessed, and every once in a while you'll even pick up a kind of hybridized reggae-style rap that adds yet another layer of cool to "Couch Potato". While you're enjoying it all, be on the lookout for more great music from Jakubi in the near future. Seeing as how they've not let us down yet, we've no reason to expect anything less than awesome music from them moving forward.
