Everybody needs a bit of funk in his or her life, and if you've been feeling funk-deprived at all lately, we have the sonic panacea that you so desperately need. Jake Bullit, the Birmingham-based four-piece, has been around for a while, so these guys definitely have the experience necessary to create some complex work, and that's exactly what they've done on their brand-new single, "Pain Killer"—an upbeat jam that radiates funk and house vibes. If you were to give an old-school funk track to a modern-day house producer, the result would probably sound similar to Jake Bullit's new offering here, but with that said, the Birmingham boys have done such an incredible job of intermixing the house and funk elements that we're unsure if anybody could recreate the sound again. We're absolutely blown away by the dexterity with which the electric guitar is handled, and its sound is even enhanced by some groovy synths and a pumping house beat that all coalesce beautifully alongside. It really is amazing when an artist or act can manage to put a positive twist on an older style, and that's exactly what we're hearing here in "Pain Killer". The vocals even have a bit of a throwback feel, and them with all the other elements combined have us awaiting eagerly their debut EP that's scheduled for release October 6th.
