We've long drawn ties between Jacob Banks and John Legend. The two acts are, in their own right, pioneers of a fresh brand of nu-soul—one piped with electronic injections and catchy hooks that have become increasingly common in recent days. Today brings the latest intriguing track we've heard of the kind, "Unholy Water", from the former act, and it's great. "Unholy Water" is reminiscent of Jacob's guitar-driven cuts of the past, but this one introduces a lo-fi vocal and hop-step groove that oozes with alternative feels. Though it may be a task to exactly nail which genre it lies in, its brew of alternative, electronic, and soul is one that'll be sure to peak ears regardless what it's called.
