Jack Garratt — The Love You're Given

Jack Garratt

The Love You're Given

Jack Garratt is not one of those artists that panders to whatever musical trends are currently all the rage on the internet at the moment. Yes, his music is very relevant, and his sound has resonated with a large number of new fans since the debut of songs like "Worry" and "Water", but that's not because he piggybacked off of whatever the flavor of the day was. Rather, his music resonates with people because it's honest, extremely well-made, and most of all, unique. Nowhere can this dynamic be heard more than in his newest single, "The Love You're Given". The track is a sonic middle finger to traditional pop song structure, and yet, it's surprisingly catchy once the intro starts to build steam. Instead of your traditional build-drop-build construction, think of "The Love You're Given" as one big ramp where all the power and focus in Jack's songwriting arsenal is laser-focused on building the music until your ears are greeted with a sweeping culmination of layers that will have you itching for the repeat button once you realize what you got yourself into. Interestingly enough, Jack's delivery is a bit frustrating at first, because he normally comes out of the gates swinging with big sounds and ever bigger lyrics. However, once you listen to all the way through, the soft-edged intro only serves to heighten the suspense as he slowly adds depth to the mix. This is one of those songs that only gets better with repeated listens, so make sure to throw it on your favorite HD playlist and put some miles on it. You may just find that this is your favorite release of his yet.
