This is most definitely the first time you've come across the diversely talented Gareth Jenkins, and, today, one should be concerned with his music-affiliated moniker, as his debut track, "On Leaving", is seething with ethereal brilliance. Not too surprisingly residing in Sydney, the singer-songwriter claims to work with producers of distinct sonic backgrounds, and, certainly, that allows his highly unorthodox but gripping sound to show. The protruding element in Jenkins' vocals is the shadowy tone he possesses, and it's one that thrusts his ruminative lyrics throughout while engendering quite an unearthly sonic environment. The production strengthens his vocal front with heavily distorted bass notes and a dusky set of sounds and synths, and, while the of the track might seem uncertain at first, what continual progression follows gives the piece plenty of character that'll tempt some repeat listens.
