It's not every day one comes across a track demanding admiration for reasons unable to be clearly articulated, and it's rarer yet to see such an effort double as a debut for a particular musical outfit. That's the case with Illyin Pipes' enveloping "Grasshopper" anthem, though; it's the very first song of theirs shared publicly through their SoundCloud account, and although it's been out for a month, its lack of exposure has us really scratching our heads. There's nothing not to love about their unusual brand of indie-electronic, and the breathtakingly cool vocals purveying the track leave all desires at the door. What's just as incredible is the unique pacing of "Grasshopper"; the shifting time signatures supplement the overwhelming unusuality of the track to perfection, and the lyrical content, unique in its own right, fits in without fault. It's obvious the passion these Torontonians have for their craft and for each other, and we really hope to hear more of their majestic material in the near future.
