I.AM.L — Lionheart

I.AM.L

Lionheart

An artist's debut—perhaps more than any other offering of theirs—is intent on eliciting attraction and the onset of loyalty from those who listen, and while few actually succeed in resounding around the minds and hearts of all coming across them, far fewer exude a kind of unflinching grandeur and intrinsic pull to the work itself. It's surely a rarity to see, but, as luck would have it, it's what we have with Brighton-based singer-songwriter I.AM.L's debut track "Lionheart", a stunning intersection of pop excellence and emotional outpouring. The track, as reported by TLOBT, was inspired by, and dedicated to, Laura's (I.AM.L) grandmother, and it's easy to see how that's the case with her tantalizing reminiscing and tone to go with it. From its light, piano-led introduction, to Laura's initially delicate tone, to the short-but-ever-suspenseful build, to the greatly bloomed instrumentation and vocal burst of hers that follows (and subsequent ebbs and flows in intensity), Laura leaves us awed. It's really the only sensible reaction to have after going through the work, and, aside from agreeing after you get through it, it's advised that you take note of her mountain-moving presence going forward. She's amazing things ahead of her, no doubt, and you're going to want to be around for her landscaping of the pop spectrum.
