We're a little late to the party on this one, but better now than never, right? So, without further ado, here's newcomer HUNTAR's debut track, "Expectations". (Think the hard-edged pop of Lorde plus the minimalist vibe that NY's hit indie trio, Wet, has been making waves with lately.) And after you've mixed those two together, dim the lights a bit (HUNTAR isn't one for the happy-go-lucky stuff), and then top it off with vocals that can hang with the best of 'em. The song starts out slow and methodical, punctuated by big bass hits and even bigger drums, but as it nears the last third of its runtime, your ears are launched into a flurry of softer synth and piano chords, and you realize that the slow accumulation of tension in the fist half was all there just to let it out in spectacular fashion right at the very end. However, just when it starts to get really good, HUNTAR pulls the plug and the song winds down. At that point, there's really only one thing to do, and that's to play it again, which, coincidentally, is exactly what we recommend you do.
