It’s always refreshing to know an artists that continually varies their sound and approach to electronic, and Housemate is a producer who certainly ratifies the claim, as he drops yet another chiller entitled “Close To You”. Brad Payne (Housemate) is a talent we’ve kept an eye on for awhile now, and what we’ve particularly noticed from his work is his inherently possessed creativity, as he unfetters his sonic ingenuity with scintillating vibes time and time again. With chillwave spreading at an exponential rate in the production sphere, it’s becoming a lot harder to come by tracks that have a stronger piquancy than its contemporaries, but “Close To You” definitely does with Brad injecting a barrage of vivifying inclusions in the form of cowbells, pitch-shifting cuts, and even a bass-driven cat purr. The synth work is also admirable—as are the uniquely patterned drums—and along with the witty, aforementioned cuts swinging in and out, the overall result is one that’ll prompt repeated listens.
