Not all remixes are worthy of being listened to (obviously), and sometimes they make your eyes roll, but with James Curds' infectious interpretation of HOTLANE's "Whatever", polished flowing rhythms leave us an effort that is to be applauded. On it, Curd adds a house-sounding touch to the original disco track by injecting electronic beats into the backdrop, and a hazed-over vocal track gains momentum and establishes prominence as the lyrics are clarified. On top of that, instrumental passages with meticulously played electric guitar compliment lightly played piano and the chronic beat alongside it. We oftentimes see remixes that seem to overhaul the entirety of the original track it dissects, sometimes with beneficial, and sometimes with disastrous results, but James Curd's renovation of HOTLANE's piece showcases his ability to alter only certain sections of the sound to produce a tactfully changed, yet exceptionally addicting new sonic life. Give it a go, and find yourself glued to its unique style.
