Hoodie Allen doesn't get the respect he deserves, and we have a few reasons why we think that might be the case. It obviously doesn't help that he's the ethnicity he is (let's not pretend to believe that that doesn't mean anything these days, and especially not in music [and especially not in the genre he's within]), and the fact that he's a clean-cut guy, too, probably doesn't bode well for more "underground" fans. Those are, of course, fairly artificial reasons not to like a person or their art, but, unfortunately, they plague our consciences and taint our ability to offer praise. It's fucked, but, despite the flack, we'll continue to post his shit when it's as good as it is here. "Champagne and Pools" is what track has us gathered here, and it comes at a strategic time for the parties involved, too, as they'll be touring together this upcoming fall (we've a link for the dates listed below). Hoodie, blackbear, and KYLE all contribute excellently on the piece, and their smooth rapping, stylish crooning, and ease gliding over what lightly tropical, hip-hop-tinged beat exists is seriously hard not to like on rational grounds. It's got basically every element checked for a track that should be universally liked, and, whether or not it receives the love from outlets it deserves, we're just glad that the dude keeps pushing forth and doing him.
