For an indie-folk song to really appeal to us, it must possess a certain authenticity and style that can't be faked. An act or artist doesn't have to overdo the uniqueness, of course, and they shouldn't; often the best efforts are the simplest, and that's just the case with this excellent offering from Brisbane duo Hollow Coves. Matt Carins and Ryan Henderson, the two making up the team, recently released their debut EP, Drifting, and our clear-cut favorite from the work is the chilled-out, campfire-appropriate track, "The Woods". "The Woods" isn't the most musically complex piece we've ever heard (recall our "simple" comment from up above), but that's probably a good thing, because the subtle guitar melodies, slowly building beat, and sweet piano chords in it all come together as they should. The vocal efforts from Matt and Ryan, too, really string the song together, and they successfully convey that "chilled" vibe the duo claims to possess.
