When we inspect Iceland for their up-and-coming talent, we see the ethereal-folk of Ásgeir and the xx-trending sounds of Vök rise prominently into view. Now added to that list is the Reykjavik-based duo of Logi Pedro Stefansson (production) and Karin Sveinsdottir (vocals), who articulate musical ingenuity under the moniker, Highlands, on their debut EP, n°1. By forging electronically led production that boasts a curious and engaging edge to it, Highlands naturally stick out from the rest of the electronic-pop world in a big way. As exposed on the highlight track, "Rolling Stones", we see their unique stance in action as the varying vocal cadence of Karin weaves around the intricate and undulating production of Logi, leading us down a path of refreshing unfamiliarity. For a debut, this is as good as it gets, and you can bet Highlands will have more where this fantastic EP came from.
