HEARTCOPY — Re-Do

HEARTCOPY

Re-Do

"Re-do" by HEARTCOPY, a synth/punk/pop band from Montreal, comes out of the gate sounding like the beginning of your typical club banger, but the song spontaneously morphs into a smooth-pop masterpiece afterwards, so you have to give it some time (namely, beyond the first seven seconds), to work itself out. The synths that introduce the track are persistent throughout the song, but they take on a totally different feel when layers of airy electronic bliss float over them. The vocal work is excellent; a poppy female songstress goes back and forth with a male whisper, but they come together beautifully to harmonize in the chorus. Like the parts of a hazy dream, the layers of this track mesh together to generate a distant feel, and though it came out five months ago, this hidden gem didn't receive the recognition it ought to have. So if the reason for this tragedy is that most didn't listen after the first seven seconds, then we're sure glad we did, because this track is a must-listen.
