Weighty, emotive messages are often effective in aiding a rapper’s reputation, but the delivery of them is just as important. The South London hip-hop trio Hawk House has an understanding of this fact, but if you can’t exactly pinpoint what makes the Croydon-based brothers so captivating, just drench yourself in the poignant lyricism the siblings spew on “Chill Pill (Experiment 2)”. They discuss unfamiliar themes with fresh wordplay and innate opinions, and while the two harness the beat with viciousness, the third, Demae, harmonizes throughout, giving the piece the warmth it might have otherwise lacked. Towards the end of the effort, too, you’ll be engrossed in her tranquil solo, and it’ll make for one ideal synopsis to the hip-hop gem in its entirety.
