Hatch

Ticket to Anywhere (Tracy Chapman Cover)

Hatch is an artist who takes pleasure in spending ample time over each track, whether it be a revamp or original, and we see that fact flaunted again as the Sydney-based vocalist and producer exposes further his sonic voyages with his latest cover—one of Tracy Chapman’s unfading piece, “Fast Car”. We’ve only thoroughly delved into Hatch's cover of Roy Ayers and his five-month-old piece, “New Direction”, but we can confidently say we’re already well-versed with his bass-fastened sound. Again, too, on his work here, euphonic synths come to the aid to the vocal segments rather swimmingly, and we just can't get enough of them. Jerry Gorman's (Hatch) unique yet nostalgia-including take is instantly prominent on his version of the track, with capering chord progressions trotting beside tom-assisted drum breaks in an ever-engaging manner. We honestly don’t tire in reiterating Gorman’s vocal abilities, as he truly does acknowledge the original to his full potential, and even though this piece might have just a handful of similarities with it, he’s yet again portrayed a sonic side that's been able to come pleasurably to our notice. Nice work, Hatch.
