There’s no doubt that funk and soul go hand in hand, but when someone as poised as Sydney-based talent Hatch chooses to renovate such a classic as Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves The Sunshine”, we don’t mind him tinkering with them in whichever way he desires. And while the latter artist may still be considered fresh in a number of households, for those who think his work is rather ancient, rest assured that Hatch’s rendition of the original will satisfy every bass-enthuisast, while also bringing a smile or two amongst the senior folk. From paying some serious homage to Roy’s vocals, to the pitch-shifting drop, Hatch has certainly outdone himself on his piece here. The vocal redecoration is spotless, and while managing to create a nostalgic mood, he employs a marching-band-esque snare roll that makes way for an immense lower-pitched drop to spoil all those bass snobs. It’s evident that Hatch believes Roy was a game-changer in his time, and it’s nice to see him put such a well-crafted spin on the original effort.
