When we first heard Harper's debut tracks last week, we knew we had something special in our ears, and "Animal", one of the strongest tracks from her recently released debut EP, The Velvet, proves that we weren't at all mistaken. Blending moody, glossy production and Harper's naturally lyrical voice, "Animal" is an impressive artistic achievement. Harper's got an uncommon set of pipes, and her performance on the effort is fantastically expressive and emotional, yet free of artificial melodrama. In short, "Animal" is a simply good pop song, and therefore a step in the right direction for the East London musician. We truly hope that The Velvet puts into motion Harper's career and garners her some new fans, and, after just one listen to the track in question here, we get the sense that this shouldn't be a problem.
