It's hard to tell at times whether or not a new project is the result of one man, woman, or some sort of utterly confusing and inconsistent combination of the two, but from what we can gather, this new NYC-via-Boston one belongs to multi-talent Woodson Black and beautiful-sounding singer Emily Brouwer. It does not matter, of course, who happens to be behind the music, but for the sake of informational clarification, there's that to ponder. Woodson, per several comments on his Instagram account, is an absolute wizard as it pertains to photography and words, and the fact that he and Emily have as astonishing of a tune as they do in "Homegrown" here is just amazing. With the percussive assistance of friend Mike Wagz behind them on the track, we hear a wondrous teetering between ethereality and sentimentality—two sonic themes we know and love well—and though it's easy to peg the piece as definitively folk-driven in nature (it certainly is), there are so many emotional tones within it that a burial beneath a genre is not to anyone's benefit here. "Homegrown" needs to fly as freely as the spirit of the artists behind it, and the support we feel that the track will get should allow it to do just that. [via The Indie Curator]
