Another day, another obscure electronic artist who comes out of the bowels of the internet to delight us with their sound. These seemingly random occurrences have become quite the norm around here, and as we continue to scour the depths of the World Wide Web for new music to share, we tend to think that the trend will be everlasting. That's all fine and dandy when you get individuals like Gullfisk to surface, however, unknown to the masses but on the brink of brinking out with a sound similar enough to other admired artists and producers within the genres he represents, namely, downtempo, ambient, and electronic. Just a few days ago, the Belgian producer released his Spring Congress EP, a four-track effort receiving little reception (for reasons we can't quite understand), but we hope to remedy that today with the highlighting of our favorite tracks from the body of work. "Spring Congress" is our first selection, and it's not difficult to hear why; the pacing is the opposite of off-putting, the synths are fresh, and the pitch-shifted vocals are coolly attractive. It's a minimal production, definitely, but that's what we need sometimes to break from all the other high-octane efforts within the electronic realm. The second track of our liking was the final, a collaborative piece by Gullfisk and Heden entitled "Come to Mind" that really explores a vast, galactical soundscape. More concrete vocals are utilized on this track in comparison to the former, giving it a slightly more accessible feel, but still retaining sonic enticement all the same.
