Dawn Golden could have probably rested on his laurels a bit after his debut album got stellar reviews from both the fans and the critics, but sitting back and letting the achievements unfold doesn't seem to be his style, because it's only been three weeks since Still Life dropped, and already he's come out with another track to keep us hooked. This time around, he's a remix of Grizfolk's "The Struggle", and while a pairing like this may not be the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the words "Dawn Golden remix", it certainly makes sense after you've given it a listen. The first thirty-five seconds are a bit confusing at first. The note progression is nothing like the original, and if you're at all familiar with Grizfolk's version, your brain might have a hard time reconciling the vocals with what Dawn Golden is doing with the production work. However, this is a remix, and if you let go of all your preconceived notions about what the song should sound like, you'll quickly realize Dawn Golden knows full well what he's doing, which is to say, squeezing the sound out of whatever original he has to work with. After a full listen through the effort, listen again (since your ears will be acclimated at this point), and really soak up all the little details he's so good at slipping into the music. Through the track's midway point, his composition prowess is on full display, and if there were still any naysayers left after Still Life, it's hard to imagine they're still going to be around after analyzing this intricate work. Dawn Golden is at the top of his game, and with such a steady steam of his quality music coming our way, there's no telling what heights he'll reach from here.
