Gordi — Taken Blame

Gordi

Taken Blame

Sydney singer-songwriter Gordi made herself known to the world late last year with captivating debut single “Nothing’s As It Seems”. It was an indie-folk ballad of such reverent beauty that we were infatuated well before the first musical refrain, and multiple repeats only served to deepen our appreciation to the point where we felt compelled enough to include it on our list of the best Australian songs of 2014. If you were anything like us and were completely enamored by the debut release, then you'll wholeheartedly adore the new piece Gordi’s put out: “Taken Blame”. Returning on it are the celestial vocal harmonies that were so instrumental to her original sound, but now, we see exposed skittering percussion and digital samples that crafts a sound more dense than a typical folk song. These interstitial blips that bestrew the Gordi's gorgeous vocals are indeed subtle nods to electronic-tinged folk pioneers such as Electric President and The Postal Service, yet this offering retains an authentic expression that is unquestionably worthy of our undivided attention.
