We all need more music that makes us happy to be alive, and, though the exuberant and life-giving sounds of Gordi have been featured on here before, with the release of her debut EP, Clever Disguise, attention for her is being warranted once again. The Australian artist cleverly stitches together harmony, folk guitar, and electronica to create this unique release, and it is one that shows a great deal of promise for her going ahead. Songs like "Nothing As It Seems" and "Wanting" play on Gordi's strength as an indie-folk songstress, as more subtle elements of electronic production support the tracks, and the whimsy in them make them special as well. The levity with which she brings to the entire EP is refreshing, and on cuts like "So Here We Are" as well, she's able to demonstrate a versatility that bodes her and the entire project well. Gordi is able to remarkably convey her passion through her talent here, and there isn't one track able to be skipped on the body of work as a result.
