Very little is known about the UK baroque-pop duo, Gold Spectacles, but we'll tell you what we do know: they're from London, their influences range from Paul Simon to Phoenix (very promising), and their debut single “Steal You Away”, is absolutely refreshing. Beginning with a folk-sounding arrangement of guitar pickings and bongo drums, their first track is ushered in simply, but also uniquely. Although it might not be acknowledged without a good listen, there is a lot going on here: a brilliant bass line, a steady drum pace, the scattering of a guitar’s ethereal soundscape, an electric drum, vocals harmonizing beautifully, and an affected guitar, all of which easily mesh to form a truly listenable song. The duo’s first release leaves only one real question, and that's figuring out where they will go from here.
